Me too...
April 22, 2022
If you asked me a year ago what I would be doing with my life, activism would not be it. During Trump 1.0 I was certainly complacent and uninformed about the seriousness of the situation. I was also 8 years younger and never really understood the importance of politics. Now, with 3 kids in tow, I realize if I'm not the change for their future, then who?
So I took it upon myself to research and learn more about the current political climate and Trump 2.0 and teach others about what's going on. It's certainly an interesting time to be alive and unfortunately, a time where we can not be complacent. Trump 2.0 is much more serious than Trump 1.0 and is going to take all of us, peons, that's you and me, the ones that are not the 1% to work together and make a positive change for the future generations. This journey certainly won't be easy, but it is necessary.
Education is a key component of understanding what is going on, and as a U.S.A. resident it's your duty to educate yourself and no longer sit idly by while others tell you what to think, do, be, etc. Every one of us can make a small but mighty impact on the world, so let's talk about how you may be able to make a change for the better.
There's certainly a lot going on in this political climate but there are a few things you can do personally to make change. One of the best ways is to get involved locally. Join your local democratic chapter or another organization that aligns with your values and is already doing activism work.
The 1% is after our tax money, so you can easily make a change by pressuring the them and shop small local businesses. We know that small businesses are going to be suffering with the trade war going on between the various countries, so our local communities and small businesses are going to need our support more than ever.
Contacting your legislators is another way to have your voice heard. You can visit their website to figure out who your legislatures are. 5 Calls is a great app that you can download to help you make calls. There are scripts on their app to help you speak to your legislature about the things that bother you the most. My personal favorite is ReisitBot. It's certainly more effective to call your legislatures, but as a busy mom of 3 kiddos, ResistBot has made it easy for me to still reach out to my them even when the kids are screaming in the background.
When possible it's important to protest so that others can gain awareness of the seriousness of the situation and maybe question their political stance. 50501 Movement is a great resource to learn where to join a protest. They have various social media sites you can join as well. If you're in Kansas you can join the Kansas 50501 Movement.
Attend, local or online organizing events to become engaged in the community and to learn more about our current political climate. There are so many people doing great work in your area. Google search or start asking people in your local communities what is out there.
Trump 2.0 is going to require a little bit of all of us to bring him down.
