In 1987, the Fariness Doctrine was abolished which required news sources to offer by bipartisan factual information. Overtime, Fox News and other Far-Right Conservative voices came about like Rush Limbaugh and through Russian Propagand, fears, lies, and disinformation the powers at be (the 1%) have been able to control the minds of so many here in America. The lies told on Fox News and through the Red Pill Pipeline have many believe to be true, because when "a lie once told remains a lie, but a lie told a thousand times becomes the truth."
Fox "News" is only an entertainment channel and in fact, Fox News was sued by Dominion Voting Systems for lying and spreading misinformation about 2020 elections convincing their viewer base of a conspiracy theory that the election was stolen from Donald Trump. Fox News ultimately settled for $787M.
As in the book The Cult of Trump, "In her book Brainwashing: The Science of Thought Control, neuroscientist Kathleen Taylor outline the tactics that Fox and other conservative media use to indoctrinate viewers:
lie and skew
confusion and doubt
blame and divide
brand and label
language and framing
fearmongering
bullying and shaming
It's always imporant to understand and think critically about what we are viewing and where it may fall on the spectrum of news and factual information. There is a great Media Bias Chart that you can view and get a better idea of the information that you're taking in. My favorite recently has been MediasTouch. They're independent journalist bringing fact based information to us, often times collecting information from various news sources and breaking it down easily enough to show us the big picture.
I'm certainly no expert on Russian Propaganda, but through research online I came across a couple of social media educators that have helped me understand it more.
I encourage you to follow usa.mom.germany on Substack and Abbie Richards on Instagram.
A book worth reading is The Brainwashing of My Dad by Jen Senko. I haven't read it yet, but it's certainly on my list, because unfortunately my own parents have fallen under the Fox "News" Propaganda trap.
The more people we can educate about the fact that Fox "News" is only entertainment and isn't reality, the better. It is vital if we want to make some true and lasting impacts for our children and future generations.
